Susquehanna Service Dogs Celebrates 35 Graduating Dogs

(Harrisburg, PA, April 19, 2019) – Thirty-five dogs and their handlers will walk the stage in Susquehanna Service Dogs’ 2019 Graduation Ceremony, held on April 27, 2019 at 1 pm at Dauphin County Technical School in Harrisburg, PA. Doors open at 12:30 pm.

Graduating dogs include working service dogs, facility dogs, detection K9s, in-home service dogs, companion dogs, breeding dogs, and demonstration teams. The service dogs’ partners, puppy raisers, and all SSD volunteers will come together to celebrate the success of the dogs.

Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD), a program of Keystone Human Services, breeds, raises, trains, and places assistance dogs to support people with disabilities. Each dog is individually trained to enhance their partner’s life and assist them to be more independent. They can assist people with physical disabilities that impact mobility or balance, as well as people with psychiatric disabilities, autism, PTSD, and seizure disorders. SSD also trains hearing dogs to assist people with hearing impairments, as well as facility dogs.

“Graduation is a celebration,” says Pam Foreman, SSD Director. “We celebrate everyone who has played a part in helping these dogs change lives.”

Susquehanna Service Dogs is a fully accredited program of Assistance Dogs International and a program of the United Way of the Capital Region. SSD is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for a new training facility to continue training and placing assistance dogs. Keystone Human Services is a nonprofit organization serving children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, those experiencing mental illness, and children’s services, as well as Capital Area Head Start and Susquehanna Service Dogs.
