Susquehanna Service Dogs Campus Puppy Raising Programs: Roar for More at Penn State

Our Campus Puppy Raising Program at Penn State University, known as Roar for More, is run by students on campus in State College, PA. Established in 2014, Roar for More aims to raise puppies to be well socialized, well trained, and ready to excel once they return to Susquehanna Service Dogs for advanced training. All students who directly interact with SSD dogs go through all orientation and introductory classes.

In addition to giving the puppies in training a variety of experiences, the puppy raising program gives students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and practice responsibility, as well as learn about the many ways service dogs assist people.

Each student puppy raiser raises their own puppy. Because each puppy has only one raiser, the Roar for More club provides raisers with access to sitters and other raisers to communicate with and assist each other in training the puppies. This 1:1 method allows the club to expand and increase the number of dogs being raised on campus. Within its first six months of operation, the club included five puppies in training, showing just how successful college campus puppy raising clubs can be.
