Puppies' first meal

Meet the Crayon Litter!

We have a new litter of puppies in our SSD family – the Crayon litter!

These nine puppies were born on September 3, 2009. You can read the full story of how Shamrock, Slate, Denim, Rusty, Sienna, Lavender, Copper, Onyx and Jade came into the world by visiting our Crayon litter page. They're growing so quickly!

To welcome these puppies into our family, we're throwing them a puppy shower. You can give them gifts, such as food, vet visits, collars and toys, by visiting our virtual puppy shower. Even though it costs $20,000 to breed, raise and train each service dog, we are able to offer them at a much lower cost because of your generous donations.

You can also watch Shamrock, Rusty, Sienna, Slate, Copper, Onyx, Jade, Lavender and Denim on our Puppy Cam.

These puppies may look like adorable little fluff balls that keep tumbling over their own feet, but in two years, they'll be highly skilled service, hearing, balance, therapy or companion dogs. They will be able to open and close doors, retrieve cordless phones, turn light switches on and off, and much more. Each puppy will be specially trained to serve the unique needs of the person they will be paired with, helping them lead full, more independent lives.

You can help the puppies learn to form loving bonds with people by “puppy hugging” – visiting and playing with the puppies. Puppy hugging begins when the puppies are approximately four weeks old. If you would like to spend time with these little puppies, call Susquehanna Service Dogs at 717-599-5920.
