Volunteer Opportunities

PawsAbilities 2008, held this year on March 8 & 9 at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, is a dog activity for families with pets, professional dog trainers and all dog enthusiasts. It BENEFITS SUSQUEHANNA SERVICE DOGS which trains assistance dogs to help adults and children with physical disabilities become more independent with an improved quality of life.

We would like to thank you for your interest and help in PawsAbilities and Susquehanna Service Dogs. There are many partners and dogs waiting to become teams and this event helps them towards that goal. An event of this size is possible only with the generous help of you, our volunteer.

Please fill in the Participation Form on this Website. We will contact you in early March to confirm your task, the date and times for help during the event. Please kindly return your preferences by February 24th.

SSD thanks you for your help by offering you free admission to PawsAbilities both days as well as a $5 discount on your t-shirt.

Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:

Office help
at the Keystone office January through March preparing for event
Poster & Brochures
deliver & post in pet stores, vet offices, etc… one month prior to event
Straw Draw
assist people at this game of chance and collect monies (must be over 18)
Tickets
collect tickets, distribute programs, stamp hands or collect money (must be over 18 to collect money)
Pooper Scooper
clean-up after our 4-legged friends. Equipment provided
Registration
assists attendees with registration for breed, obedience, rally obedience and agility. Money takers must be over 18.
Registration
assist attendees with registration for the dog games Money takers must be over 18.
Door Watcher
monitor hand stamps at entrances and exits
SSD Sales
sell SSD paraphernalia. Must be over 18.
Stewards
assist the judges in breed, obedience, agility competitions
Canine Good Citizens and Therapy Dog testing
assist the judges
Agility try-outs
assist owners and their dogs try a small agility course
Set up and Tear Down
Friday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon
Office help
at the Keystone office March-April cleaning up after event
