Celebrating 12 Years Service dogs at rest A dog enthusiast event for all!

Your family and Susquehanna Service Dogs? Imagine the PawsAbilities…

Every dog has its day, and what better way to make it count than to take your pooch to PawsAbilities 2008! PawsAbilities is a two-day community celebration of the ways dogs can brighten lives. Join Keystone and Susquehanna Service Dogs for exciting competitions and events such as the Dog Olympics, Agility Try-Out, and Obedience Show & Go. Many of the events have open registration on the day of the event, while some, such as breed shows, suggest pre-registration with limited on-site sign-ups. Your dog can try his paws at the enthralling DockDogs dock jumping contest or a Rally-O obedience and agility course – and for more pampered pets, there are breed shows, a dog parade and canine costume contest. For families and canine enthusiasts, PawsAbilities will also feature the Canine Marketplace, a collection of vendor booths, as well as children’s games and crafts, a dog wash and Susquehanna Service Dog demonstrations.

Spotlight On…

Rally-O Trials

Just how obedient [and quick] is your canine companion? Test your dog’s focus, agility and obedience with an APDT Rally-O trial at PawsAbilities 2008. Rally obedience, also known as Rally-O, is an exciting dog sport that provides fun competition for both dogs and their handlers. The Bella Vista Training Center of Lewisberry, PA will once again host this year’s Rally-O course trials at PawsAbilities.

Developed from freestyle exercises used in dog obedience training, Rally-O features a course with numbered exercises that dogs and handlers navigate without direction from the judge. APDT Rally-O, sanctioned by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, is open to any dog and trainer, and it features exercises such as retrieves, sit-down-sit (dog follows commands to sit, lie down, and return to sit), straight figure 8 (dog and handler weaving through obstacles), and send over jump (handler directs dog over a jump.)

To participate in the Rally-O trials at PawsAbilities, your dog must be registered with ADPT Rally. Contact the trial secretary at 717-259-9681 or at jrodgers_13@yahoo.com for registration information.

Rally-O is a sanctioned titling event under APDT rules and regulations. The Bella Vista Training Center will host limited trials in Levels 1 through 3 on both days of PawsAbilities. Visit Bella Vista on the web or call 717-432-0750 for more information.
