Keystone Services of Maryland

Four people talking

Keystone Services of Maryland (KSM) is committed to supporting and empowering individuals on their personal journey of recovery. While working together, we explore opportunities for the development of community-based, hope-filled relationships. We intend to support growth and positive individual choices that lead to lives filled with dignity, respect and valued social roles.

Through our commitment, we encourage children and adults to grow and follow their own unique path to recovery. We believe the path to recovery must by walked in partnership and we are dedicated to ensuring that individuals have a voice in the ways we support them. Our Purpose Statement is a true reflection of our dedication to providing services that genuinely address the unique needs of those we support.

KSM began in 2000 as a program of Keystone Community Mental Health Services. Among the services we provide are Targeted Case Management, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, Behavioral Aid Program, Shelter Plus Care Program, the PATH Program and Maryland Community Council Justice Treatment Program (MCCJTP).

Chief Executive Officer

Keystone Services of Maryland is committed to the belief that people can and do recover. We have a responsibility to live our purpose every day, always supporting and empowering individuals on their personal journey to recovery. It is our attempt that all of our services and programs must reflect this purpose.

As a program of Keystone Community Mental Health Services, we share a vision of recovery as a partnership between individuals and KSM. One of our visions that guide everything we do focuses on providing the individuals we serve with a voice in the services they receive. The KSM Advisory Council is part of that voice. Similar to KCMHS's Leadership Council, the Advisory Board is made up of people who are currently participating in our programs and those who have graduated, and ensures that our services meet the needs and desires of the people we support.

Although KSM and KCMHS are two different entities, we share a culture of recovery, and we are working to bridge the differences through coordination between the Advisory Council and Leadership Council. It is our goal to create a solid network of our combined recovery resources, providing mutual support and opportunities for networking, education and training for both our staff and the people we serve.

By bridging our differences and fostering a culture of recovery, we will continue to provide a high quality of services and supports that truly reflect the needs and desires of people in recovery. We look forward to continuing to walk side by side with the people we serve as they travel their road to recovery.

Service Spotlight

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program

The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program offers individualized services that promote recovery. Serving adults ages 18 or older with a mental illness, the program supports individuals within a natural environment, such as their home or community, to live meaningful, independent lives and to be successful in their community.

Participants in the program identify their personal goals for services and coordinate with direct support professionals to develop an individualized plan that builds on their unique strengths. A direct support professional visits individuals in their homes, and group sessions are held once a week. Twice a month, these group sessions focus on living with mental illness; the other two weeks focus on personal hygiene and health care. In addition, individuals are encouraged to participate in and assist in planning a variety of community activities throughout the year.

Other services include education and support in household and money management, daily living skills, nutrition, advocacy in coordinating mental health care and finding meaningful employment.

Industry Highlights

New Managed Care Organization for KSM

KSM has transitioned to the managed care organization ValueOptions. Starting September 1, 2009, all individuals in the public behavioral health system have transferred to ValueOptions. This transition provides Keystone Services of Maryland with the potential to expand services and continue providing high quality supports to the individuals we serve.

Providing Continued Excellence in Service

We continually evaluate our programs to ensure that the individuals we serve receive quality services and supports that truly meet their needs. In October, our Maryland Community Council Justice Treatment Program (MCCJTP) and Shelter Plus Care program were reviewed. Both programs passed and will continue to provide the high quality services you have come to expect from Keystone.
