Services: Life Sharing

Man and Woman Talking

Life Sharing through Family Living is the name given to a type of service in which a family provides support in their home, to one or two persons with developmental disabilities. The philosophy of Life Sharing is based on the importance of enduring and permanent relationships as the foundation for learning life skills, developing self-esteem and learning to exist in interdependence with others. Life Sharing provides the opportunity for each person with a developmental disability to grow and develop to his or her fullest potential. Life Sharing is often an alternative to Residential Living. People with a developmental disability are matched with host families who, in exchange for financial reimbursement, provide comprehensive supports in a home environment.

Families are trained by Keystone Residence and receive support from a Family Living coordinator. Coordinators provide assistance with problem solving, resources and respite for the family. They facilitate plans that strive to be person centered and ensure services are in compliance with State regulations.

Family Living homes are regulated by Title 55. Public Welfare, Chapter 6500. The homes are inspected annually for compliance with these regulations.
