SSD Receives $65,000 Donation from the Grand Order of the Eastern Star of Pennsylvania
Susquehanna Service Dogs received a $65,000 donation from the Grand Chapter of the Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star. This generous support allows SSD to place service dogs with Pennsylvania veterans at no cost.
For the past three years, the Order of the Eastern Star, the world’s largest fraternal organization for both men and women, has been working to help veterans and returning soldiers with disabilities to receive service dogs free of charge through the program “Paw Prints for Pennsylvania Patriots.” Although the effort is an international campaign, Pennsylvania has led the way in fundraising and donated more than $125,000 to SSD last year.
These donated funds have been and will continue to be used to raise, train and place service dogs with veterans who have physical disabilities, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety and depression.
“We are honored to have the support of the Order of the Eastern Star, which allows us to serve the dedicated men and women who have served our country,” says Nancy Fierer, director of Susquehanna Service Dogs. “With the support of a service dog, veterans are able to overcome the physical and psychiatric challenges that often accompany their return from duty.”
