A Great Day for Reading

April 4 was a great day for reading in Capital Area Head Start classrooms! Pre-kindergarten students in several CAHS classrooms enjoyed guest readers from PNC, including Central PA Regional President Jim Hoehn.

These visits are part of PNC’s Great Day, an annual celebration of PNC Grow Up Great®, a program designed to prepare children and families for success in school and life, providing innovative opportunities to enhance children’s learning and development.

“Reading is a key part of children’s language development, and we are happy to partner with PNC to bring positive role models to our classrooms to share the love of books with our young readers,” says Sue Smith, Director of Early Childhood Development at Capital Area Head Start.

The guest readers from PNC certainly showed students that books are fun! Between using different voices (such as talking like a pirate) and engaging students to count along with them, they had everyone eagerly awaiting each page.

PNC also gave every student a copy of the book Peg + Cat: The Race Car Problem to take home and read with their family.

PNC Grow Up Great® is celebrating 15 years of supporting high quality early childhood education. Capital Area Head Start has been a recipient of grants from PNC Grow Up Great®, allowing children to explore technology and enhance their learning.

Capital Area Head Start gives children a head start in life, empowers parents, and strengthens families. A program of Keystone Human Services, CAHS has been providing services for children and families in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry Counties in Pennsylvania since 1988.
