Model Coherency
Date: November 2, 3
Location: Keystone Education Center
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
One of the most important things that a service provider can do in protecting vulnerable people, and helping to create the conditions for people to experience a full and rich life, is to assure that services are proposed, designed, and planned with great care and caution to assure that they truly meet the needs of the people that are to be served. Model Coherency embodies the idea that all elements of practice in a service should be in harmony with each other, and follow from a unifying set of principles. It requires people to think about the identity of the people who are to be served, what is it that would be required to support people well, who could do the work well, and in what ways the work could be done with consistent, high quality.
Model Coherency is a unique and very helpful tool which can be used to both conceptualize positive service designs, and help participants develop a framework for services which increase the likelihood of a coherent match between people’s identities, their most pressing needs, and the supports to actually meet those needs.
Prior attendance at a three or four day Introduction to Social Role Valorization workshop is required to register for this event.

Community-Based Rehabilitation Program Design and Implementation in Central America
International SRV Practices Study Group
Date: December 10
Location: Keystone Education Center
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Rehabilitation programs for citizens requiring orthotic and prosthetic assistance are being designed in Central America in the context of where and for whom services are most needed. This requires a creativity and flexibility in program design that can meet the most pressing needs of people with a wide array of disabilities and life problems. People with disabilities are the driving force behind program design and they are involved at every level of program implementation.
This study introduces us to work that has been done in Nicaragua, assisting people with prosthetic limbs to rejoin their communities in valued ways and in valued roles. Social Role Valorization and Model Coherency have formed the foundation of this fascinating project, so join us to learn about it and discuss the project.
Prior attendance at an Introduction to Social Role Valorization workshop is required to register for this event.
