Keystone Human Services International Moldova Association (KHSIMA) Community for All – Moldova
October 2008 – present
We have a vision of a community for all people where individuals are valued members of society. They live in homes within the community with their own possessions and personal space. Their inherent human rights to be accepted for their unique gifts are respected, and the community bonds together to support and celebrate each individual.
For the men and boys living at the Home for Boys with Disabilities in Orhei, Moldova, this vision of a community for all will become reality. Keystone Human Services International; the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child; Open Society Mental Health Initiative; and Soros Foundation – Moldova have united to create a Community for All. With funding from the Open Society Mental Health Initiative and the Soros Foundation – Moldova, Keystone is helping to transform the system of care for individuals with disabilities from an institution-based system to a network of community-based services and supports.
Over several years, the men and boys at the institution will move to living arrangements within the community, reuniting with their families, joining foster families, or moving into shared living, community homes or supported living arrangements. These community-based alternatives to institutionalization will support not only the men and boys from the institution at Orhei, but also children and adults at risk of institutionalization, providing opportunities for all people to remain in the community.
True to its name, Community for All will engage the entire community in its mission of inclusion. It will not only create homes and community supports for individuals, but also raise community awareness of disability issues and increase government and professional capacity to address them.
Based on the guiding philosophy of self-empowerment and belonging, Community for All – Moldova creates a future where all children and adults are participating, contributing and valued members of society.
