KEY Service Systems, Inc. currently provides residential and nursing services in all areas of Connecticut.

Community Living Arrangements
Community Living Arrangements are group homes, which provide caring, growth promoting structured environments in suburban settings throughout the state of Connecticut. The homes are funded by several state entities including the Department of Developmental Services, the Department of Social Services, and the Department of Children and Families. KEY's CLA division currently supports age-segregated groups of both children and adults. The care provided ranges from assistance with daily living skills to medical support and in some cases intensive psychiatric monitoring. The program's goal is for each individual to achieve physical and social integration in the community and to maximize their potential to lead the most independent, productive, and meaningful life possible. This is achieved through development of personal relationships, enhancement of daily living skills, and encouragement of all the individuals to speak for themselves.
Nursing Services
Nursing services is a program providing nursing care to people with developmental disabilities. Our senior staff have many years of directly relevant experience. Highly skilled, specially trained nurses are available to agencies that have residential programs for persons with developmental disabilities or that provide vocational services.
RN on Call
RN-On-Call is a service that offers RN phone consultation to direct care staff. Our nurses are specially trained in caring for developmentally disabled individuals and are available to provide medical advice and direction from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 A.M. daily, and all day weekends and holidays.
Birth to Three
The Birth to Three program is a subcontractor to the Department of Developmental Services. Funding is provided by the state and the federal government, as well as private insurance. One phone number serves as the single point of entry for statewide referrals. Our agency conducts eligibility evaluations. Children must demonstrate significant delays in one or more areas of development in order to qualify. For eligible children, we identify strengths and needs, determine the outcomes that the family desires, and develop a plan of services and supports to reach these outcomes. Services are family focused and family driven. They may include speech, physical, or occupational therapy, special education, or an array of other supports. Frequency is determined on an individualized basis.
Youth Transition
This is an intensely supported apartment program for male and female adolescents ranging in age from 16 to 21 years. Each individual receives up to 58 hours of staff support each week, and can reach a manager 24 hours a day, seven days per week in the event of an emergency. Services include assistance with daily living activities, maintaining good health, pursuing education and vocational training, as well as providing structure during this time of transition to adulthood. Adolescents learn the skills necessary to become more independent, assume more adult responsibilities and ultimately thrive as productive members of their communities. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) funds this program.
Self Determination
Self Determinationis a program in which the individual chooses the services they would like to receive. Supports may range from one hour per week to twenty-four hours per day. An individual may purchase services of a variety of types including assistance with activities of daily living skills, community activities/integration, locating a job, or finding a place to live. If they so desire, individuals may participate in interviewing the staff who will work with them. Planning with the individual is completely person centered and this method is used in all team strategizing. The concept of self determination is one in which the individual chooses their own destiny and is empowered to chart their own direction.
Supported Living
Supported Living consists of apartment settings that offer support tailored to individual needs. The program's goal is to provide services that will maximize the individual's independence and ability to make choices concerning life. Assistance is available in areas such as helping people secure friendships, locating safe, affordable housing, finding employment, and developing and maintaining daily living skills. Apartments are located in the Greater Hartford and Greater Waterbury areas of Connecticut.
Supported Homes
Supported Homes offers a comprehensive and individualized residential support system for children, adolescents, and adults with special needs. There are three program models offered within the "Supported Homes" program:
Family Care Homes
Family Care Homes are licensed foster care arrangements that match a child or adult with mental retardation with a private family to live in their home for long term care and education. The program's goal is to help the individual acquire skills and assist them in becoming active in the daily life of the family and community. Supervised by a case manager on Key Service Systems' staff, the host family actively participates in teaching the individual with a disability self care, social and communication skills as well as providing a good home. For these services, the family receives financial reimbursement. This program is licensed and funded by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services.
In Home Support
In Home Support involves intensive case management and support services provided to a biological family caring for a child or adult with a disability. Support is provided through advocacy, payment for necessary medical equipment, and respite care. The Connecticut Department of Developmental Servicesfunds this program.
Family Support
Family Support provides services to natural or adoptive families receiving funding from the Department of Children and Families. Key staff plan with the family, school system, and department to develop comprehensive supports based on family need. Services may include but are not limited to nursing, direct staff support and/or behavioral support.
