Keystone Human Services

KEY Service Systems, Inc.

Man Having Fun

With support from the Department of Developmental Services, the Department of Social Services and the Department of Children and Families of the State of Connecticut, KEY Service Systems represents Keystone's vision of community-based support programs in Connecticut. Established in 1989, KEY provides a selection of services primarily to people with developmental disabilities, with supports such as group homes, supported living arrangements and early intervention programs.

One of KEY's primary objectives is to uphold a successful system of specialized medical and health care provision for those with developmental disabilities. Facets of this system include KEY Nursing Services and RN on Call, a 24-hour registered nurse assistance hotline. At KEY our employees are the backbone of a comprehensive system that supports our efforts to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of the individualized services we provide.

KEY is a subsidiary corporation of Keystone Human Services and is governed by a community-based board of directors.

A Word from the Executive Director

Mark Ritter
Mark Ritter,
Executive Director

From the inception of KEY in 1989, I have witnessed the vision of the agency grow from three community living arrangements to a comprehensive system of community and residential supports for individuals with developmental disabilities – which is why it is particularly exciting for me to announce the development of two new KEY community living arrangements: one for four young women with developmental disabilities, and another for four men living with developmental disabilities and autism.

The planning and construction of each of these new programs is a major undertaking for the agency. With funding from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, we were able to hire 15 new staff members to facilitate the development of one home. Recognizing the diverse life experience of all individuals, we strive to take every measure possible to make the transition to a community living arrangement as welcoming as possible – and I am happy to report that the individuals who have already moved into their new home have adjusted very well.

One of the primary components of the hard work going into every new program at KEY is financing – and our work is only possible through the support of our community. Fundraisers are one of the major ways to make connections with the people who live and work in our neighborhoods, and you can get to know us and support our mission by attending benefits like May's upcoming Dancing thru the Decades. I look forward to meeting you!

Service Spotlight

KEY Nursing Services

KEY's Nursing Services program contracts highly-skilled nurses to agencies that serve people with developmental disabilities. KEY's specially-trained nurses are a valuable asset to community-based residential programs and vocational services, and they have earned recognition from the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services for their consistently excellent care.

Because they are experienced in the state requirements and regulations that govern human services providers, KEY nurses can ensure state licensing compliance, and their services can enhance the quality of care offered in any residential or employment-geared program.

KEY nurses are required to attend regular education programs, preserving the KEY tradition of responsible and relevant human services provision.
