A Word from the President

February 1, 2008

A Warm Welcome to Impact Systems

Dennis W. Felty
Dennis W. Felty
President, KHS

I am pleased to welcome Impact Systems, Inc., a Pennsylvania corporation which has served individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism and mental illness for over 35 years, to the Keystone family. Through this acquisition, effective January 31, 2008, two organizations with shared goals will unite to create a capacity for leadership, change and advocacy that neither could achieve alone.

The introduction of Impact Systems as a new Keystone Human Services agency not only assures the continuation of high quality, effective and affordable services to the individuals and families served by both organizations, but also will yield a comprehensive regional system of care serving 27 counties – promoting our inclusivity, choice, effectiveness and accountability in every community we serve. Impact Systems' knowledge and experience enriches our capacity to understand and provide for the lifelong needs of individuals with disabilities and their families.

Marcia J. Reynolds, who has over 30 years of service and leadership with Impact Systems, has been appointed president of the new Impact Systems agency. Marcia will also serve as a vice president of Keystone Human Services and will join our senior leadership team. Russ Kulp, Impact's former president, has retired after more that 30 years of outstanding and committed leadership to the people served by Impact Systems. We all wish Russ the best in this new and exciting phase of his life.

Integrating the strengths of Impact Systems and Keystone will undoubtedly present a host of new challenges, but I passionately believe that the benefits for both organizations and the community will far outnumber the obstacles. Impact Systems will be converted from a privately-held for-profit company to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, providing the organization with access to charitable and foundation funding as well as the support of Keystone's sound infrastructure of quality, financial, communication and human resource management systems. Moreover, our expanded system of care will support the Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Programs' commitment to establish choice-driven, statewide systems of care for persons with intellectual disabilities and autism.

Both Keystone and Impact Systems are industry leaders, and together we will constitute the largest and most comprehensive provider of community residential services in Pennsylvania.

Through the dedication and support of countless individuals and organizations, Keystone has been able to bridge many formidable gaps between people in the community and the support they need to live full and healthy lives. As we strive to truly become the keystone of a growing human services structure, we recognize that all who share our goals are relying on one another both to support each individual and to sustain the entire structure. By building bridges of support between our organization and others, we are building a strong, united foundation, prepared to face the challenges of the future.

We welcome all of the fine employees, individuals served and their families to Keystone. We look forward to continuing our lifelong vision, helping persons with disabilities be valued, fully participating and contributing members of our society.
