Employment Resource Center Employment and Training for Capital Area Head Start Parents

Capital Area Head Start provides an Employment and Training program for parents to support them to move to their desired level of self-sufficiency and financial independence, while building self-esteem and developing supportive services. The Employment and Training program focuses on the ever-changing needs of parents and takes a two-generational approach that assists families to rise out of poverty, supports job readiness, and assists parents in preparing their children for continued educational success.
Our comprehensive services focus on education and training, as well as the family’s health, social services, and mental health needs. Services are individualized based on the goals of the parent. The program is flexible to accommodate family schedules and other responsibilities.
Family supports are provided by CAHS staff and a variety of community resources. When parents apply for the Employment and Training program, we begin by gathering information about their employment status. When they are enrolled in the program, we complete a preliminary Family Partnership Agreement and assess their wants and needs. The program will then be individually tailored based on those needs.
Parents receive information about the Employment and Training program, as well as childcare, employment, receiving a GED, English as a Second Language (ESL), and college. Our staff conduct home visits and work with the family to develop goals.
