Capital Area Head Start A Word from the Executive Director
On July 1, 2011, Capital Area Head Start began operating the Pre-K Counts grant in the Harrisburg City schools. We’re proud that this grant is the latest undertaking in our long history of high quality early care and education, and we are prepared to continue offering quality preschool education through Pre-K Counts.
Our goal is to support the development of the whole child to his or her fullest potential at home with family, in the community and within each child’s culture. Capital Area Head Start helps every child grow, learn and be ready for school through individualized goals based on ongoing observation and assessment. The PA Early Learning Standards, which incorporate the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework, guide us in developing these individualized goals. The alignment of the PA Learning Standards for Infants, Toddlers and Pre-Kindergarten children with the PA Learning Standards for Kindergarten supports transition and school readiness.
Our success, though, is only realized because of our highly committed and trained staff and their close partnership with the parents and families. In response to the ever changing needs of children and families, we embrace the future with confidence that we will continue to expand and positively impact the communities of central Pennsylvania.
Jo Pepper,
Executive Director
