Children and Family Services Capital Area Head Start Early Head Start Services
Early Head Start (EHS) provides comprehensive services to pregnant women and children from birth through age three. The focus of the program is to promote healthy development and foster parent-child interactions that help to prepare children for later school success. Early Head Start serves 180 families by offering full year home based visitation programs.
Early Head Start is federally funded.
- EHS Home Based Program
- Early Head Start's home based program is offered in Harrisburg, Steelton and Carlisle. Families participating in this program receive weekly visits in their home from a home visitor who supports the child's learning and development as well as fostering positive parent-child relationships. Each weekly visit lasts for an hour and a half. Home visitors also provide families with information about community resources.
- Pregnant women who enroll in the home based program receive a weekly visit that focuses on prenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, and care of their newborn.
- The home based program also includes two family socialization days each month.
