The Keystone Times Fall 2008

Letter from Sally Klein, KHS Board Chairman

Sally Klein, KHS Board Chairman

Dear Friends of Keystone:

Volunteerism is the very heart of Keystone. For some busy supporters, it means getting their hands dirty with the landscaping and house painting of our many community residences. For others, it means committing themselves to board participation or fundraising on behalf of our life-altering work in the community.

Whatever your skills and interests, summer is the perfect time to reconsider your volunteer activities for the coming year, and no organization offers broader opportunities for community support than Keystone Human Services.

Perhaps the best way to get started is to review our upcoming calendar of events. From raising money for KHS thru ChocolateBall and ChocolateFest to staging our ever popular “Black Tie & Tails” on behalf of Susquehanna Services Dogs (SSD), there isn’t a talent or penchant we can’t put to good use.

On a program level, animal lovers invariably find special joy in volunteering their time in support of PawsAbilities, SSD’s Doggie Olympics. Throughout the year, we also welcome volunteers who enjoy reading to the toddlers in our Capital Area Head Start program as demonstrated by the article showcasing Warren Felty.

Those in perennial holiday spirit look forward to fundraising for Keystone by wrapping gifts every December at the Harrisburg Mall. Volunteers also engage in selling tickets and setting up for KFSA’s Basket Bingo, KHSI’s Russian Treasures … and of course, there’s always a need for those with a zest for ethnic food and a soft spot for KCMHS’s annual Hot ‘n Spicy Festival. Indeed, Keystone programs and events offer a variety of avenues for volunteers of every age to make a difference!

On a leadership level, our nominating committee is always looking for active community participants to sit on our many Boards of Directors. Whether your interests include concern for those affected by autism, intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges or even our burgeoning international efforts, Keystone offers countless ways for getting involved as volunteer leaders.

Offering leadership opportunities on the committee level as well as governance, Keystone’s corporate structure includes seven board options including:

  • Keystone Human Services
  • Keystone Service Systems, Inc.
  • Keystone Autism Services
  • Keystone Human Services International
  • IMPACT SYSTEMS, Inc.
  • Keystone Partnership
  • Key Human Services, Inc.

Anyone interested in volunteering either in program-related, event-related or governance capacities are encouraged to contact Ann Moffitt at 717-232-7509.

In my own volunteer capacity, I’ve come to understand that as we work together, each volunteer’s personal initiative furthers Keystone’s ability to advance the human spirit of the people we serve. I invite you to join me and become a more active member of the Keystone family.

Sincerely,

Sally Klein
Board Chairman
