The Keystone Times Fall 2008
Open your heart and your home to "Shared Living"
Central to Keystone's Mission is our commitment to fostering meaningful life in the community for individuals of widely varying abilities. For men and women with profound challenges, the 24-hour support provided in a fully-staffed Community Residence is most beneficial.
But for those who are able to manage more independently, experts are touting the significant personal benefits that result from shared living arrangements. Indeed, study after study affirms the many advantages of having a real home and real family.
That is why the idea of shared living is the premise for Keystone's most popular and in-demand programs. As one of Pennsylvania's largest providers of Life Sharing services, Keystone is actively recruiting families who are willing to welcome an individual into their heart and home for a sustained and respectful shared living arrangement.
All families and single individuals involved in Keystone's Life Sharing services receive training, 24-hour support and compensation. And because Life Sharing has proven to be beneficial for both families and individuals alike, impressive results combined with cost savings are reinforcing Life-Sharing programs throughout the entire Keystone organization.
For adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID), it's called “Life Sharing.” For children and youth, it's called “Therapeutic Foster Care” and “Host Homes.” For those experiencing mental illness, intellectual disabilities and/or challenges with aging, it's called “Domiciliary Care.”
Whatever you call it, the premise is valid. Studies show individuals are happier and healthier when part of a supportive and caring family environment. Individuals or families interested in opening their hearts and homes are encouraged to call Ann Moffitt at (717) 232-5209, ext. 133.
