Originally from Pittsburgh, Sheldon is active in a number of community organizations. He serves as treasurer for Citizens for the Arts, a board member of the Susquehanna Art Museum, an advisory board member of the Hershey Theatre and a member of the Hershey Rotary Club.
Sheldon worked as an investment broker with Parker/Hunter, Inc. From 1967 to 1978, he served as a Pennsylvania State Representative, where he was the vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and the chairman of the House Select Committee on Federal-State Affairs. While in this position, he published two studies: “Federal Aid to Pennsylvania” and “Federal-State Affairs in Pennsylvania General Assembly,” which were the basis of later legislative and executive branch action. Most recently, he served as general manager and CEO of the Pennsylvania Public Television Network (PPTN), the statewide distribution network of noncommercial and public broadcast programming and services, which reaches more than 99% of Pennsylvania’s citizens. During his time with PPTN, Sheldon effectively broadened PPTN’s mission and served as a national board member for the Satellite Educational Resources Consortium and the Organization of State Broadcasting Executives. He also served as a board member of the Pennsylvania Telecommunications Strategic Advisory Committee and the Pennsylvania Information Highway Consortium.
Sheldon is married with three sons and lives in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.
