Joyce M. Davis
Joyce M. Davis is the founder and president of The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, a member of The World Affairs Councils of America. She is an award-winning journalist and internationally acclaimed author who has lived and worked around the globe. She is also the president of Davis & Goodman International Media Consultants.
Ms. Davis is a former foreign correspondent and foreign editor for National Public Radio and Knight Ridder Newspapers, once the second-largest newspaper chain in the United States. She also is the former Associate Director of Broadcasting for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, based in Prague, Czech Republic, where she supervised broadcast services to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Ms. Davis specializes in foreign affairs and the media, and has written extensively on terrorism, national security and Islam. She has spoken at such respected institutions as the U.S. Naval Academy, the National Security Agency and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In 2011, she was the keynote for Georgetown University's Model UN Conference in Doha, Qatar.
She is an accomplished public speaker and moderator and has appeared on CNN International and the BBC, as well as other national news networks. Her books, articles and broadcasts provide significant insights into political, social and economic issues in the Islamic world and into the roots of terrorism. Ms. Davis has received numerous awards and distinguished fellowships, including senior fellowships with the United States Institute of Peace, Journalists in Europe based in Paris, and the Salzburg Seminar in Austria. In 2003, Ms. Davis was named Journalist in Residence with the Pew International Reporting Project at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. And in 2002, she received the U.S. State Department’s Distinguished Service Award for serving as co-chair of the Secretary's Open Forum.
